seen joan crawford's 1947 effort,"possessed"? she and van heflin played two fate crossed lovers and guess which one gets to catch lead? watching her descent into full on madness is delightful. also seeing her anti-star depiction of herself at the film's start is great. viewing her without make-up and in drab, black clothing is worth the price of admission.
give this film a looksee when possible, you will enjoy it.

Re: has anyone...
Tue, January 24, 2006 - 9:34 PMHaven't seen this one. You've peaked my interest. Is it on DVD yet? My town's pretty lame about having anything B & W or old. But, I'll look for it.
By the way do you know the name of the J. Crawfor flick where she meets and marrys Jack Palance and he turns out to be psycho? I've seen it once but don't recall the name.
thanx again!

Re: Sudden Fear
Wed, January 17, 2007 - 10:09 PMPossessed :1947 romantic noir starring Joan Crawford with Van Heflin and Raymond Massey. The film starts starkly as we see a bedraggled Crawford meander thru the streets of LA asking for "David".Eventually she collapses in a diner and is taken into a hospital-then her story is told thru flashback.Crawford was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of the obsessed and scorned woman. The movie really kicks into high gear when Louise Howell(Crawford's character) starts to freak out- a great use of sound design really puts the point across. The DVD has an impassioned commentary by Drew Casper(at points it sounds like he is arguing with someone) and a 9 minute featurette on Possessed and it's role in film noir.
Solid and engaging from the opening sequence. B+
