The Narrow Margin - 72 minute film noir flick about a cop escorting a gangster's wife to testify. Will she make it or will she be nabbed by the lurking bad guys.Starring Charles McGraw as the hardboiled cop and Marie Windsor as the witness he must protect.Although this movie never really pauses and has action almost from the opening credits til the end- it mostly takes place on a train bound to LA from Chicago.I liked the movie but it was lacking something- it had tension- but I never really felt any connection to the characters in the flick. The DVD has a dry but loving commentary by William Friedkin(Exorcist,To Live and Die in LA,French Connection) with excerpts by the film's director. The story does has some good twists and turns but it not something I want to revisit. Re: The Narrow Margin(1952)
Tue, November 14, 2006 - 3:10 PMthey showed this during last year's san francisco noir festival, and i really enjoyed it. no doubt nicer to see on the big screen, and i love charles mcgraw's gravelly voice: he's also one of the great radio actors. -

Tue, November 28, 2006 - 2:08 PMI absolutely adore this film. Great shot angles and over laying of images in the glass. You really feel the cramped quarters of the train and I think Marie Windsor is such a knock out in this role. Actually I pretty much love her in everything. She is one of my favorite noir females. It also has some really super snappy dialogue. -

Re: The Narrow Margin(1952)
Thu, January 18, 2007 - 7:06 PMi finally viewed this movie. in fact, i just stopped the DVD. like Laura, i admire Marie Windsor. M. Windsor looks incredible, real woo-bait. Marie Windsor has always resided in my top 3 film noir women. she really shines in this movie and in "the killing". the cinematography is done well. the lighting effects and angles look fantastic and the confinement of the train intensifies the notion of no escape.
