San Francisco Film Noir Festival Starts tomorrow

back at the castro theatre, let's hear it! lots of good looking double bills. many obscure titles, and the one film i'm familiar with, scarlet street, is one of my all time faves.

if you can stand eddie mueller talking about himself for twenty minutes a night it's lots of fun. still, i miss the old days at the roxie, when it was six bucks and there were about a half dozen old guys in the audience. it's a victim of its own success, or, as yogi berra says, 'no one goes there any more: it's too crowded.'

Four film noir in two days! It is great, great, great! If you are in SF this is not to be missed. Once I collect myself I'll try to say something about the films and special speakers.
        • did you go sunday, laura? i went friday and saturday, and i'm going tonight for sure, cause i love charles mcgraw's voice. the turnout's perfect: big enough for them to open the balcony, but not packed in like sardines.

of the movies i've seen, cry danger was the best, raw deal was good too, and only kid glove killer stunk.

definitely looking forward to new print of scarlet street (one of the best noirs ever; heck, one of the best flicks ever), and the spiritualist sounds fun too.

and you get a free drink with your ticket stub starting tonight. cheers!!
          • I did! I agree that Cry Danger has been the best so far. What a winner with such snappy dialogue and a rare look at a noir trailer park. 99 River Street was catchy as well. I didn't especially like Hell's Half Acre. It was a strange mix of tiki, beaches, wet roads at night in Honolulu and a pretty sick rape scene.

I am going tonight and Tuesday and Wednesday and the late show on Thursday plus both shows Saturday. I also love Scarlet Street but I am trying to catch all the "rare" ones I can.

A free drink with your ticket stub eh? Nice.
