Alright, so it's not necessarily a noir, but I caught this movie a while back and really enjoyed it. It has elements of a thriler, and the Charles Boyer character is extremely creepy. Anyone seen it?

Fri, December 9, 2005 - 9:35 PMI rented this 1944 film a coupla years ago. I liked it.
The film is incredibly atmospheric. It is very detailed: beautiful costumes, large, well-designed sets and furnishings. Director George Cukor did an awesome job with the use of light, shadow and darkness to enhance the characters and their emotions. This is definitely a characteristic of the "film noir" genre. It has some truly creepy scenes with Ms. Bergman questioning her sanity. And what are those noises in the attic? -

My favorite part is at the beginning, where she meets a woman on the train and the woman talks to her about the book she's reading. Ha! -

Sat, October 21, 2006 - 11:55 PMBoyer has this talent for always looking like he smells something bad. That had to have an effect on Ingrid. She probably started to get self conscious.

Wed, July 11, 2007 - 8:59 PMGaslight -Excellent 1944 drama starring Ingrid Bergman as a wife being manipulated by her hubby Charles Boyer to think she is crazy.Joseph Cotten and Oscar nominee Angela Lansbury round out an excellent cast.George Cukor directs the movie -mixing noirish lighting with suspense and some humor- Bergman won an Oscar and Boyer is nominated for his loathsome portrayal(meant as a compliment) of the mentally abusive hubby. The DVD has the trailer,a 13 minute retrospective and the 1940 UK version.A good thriller.
